LEDGER, GIANNOPOULOS TAKE TOP HONORS (EXCERPT)
The Patriot's Heath Ledger and The Wog Boy star Nick Giannopoulos have been named Australia's leading actors for 2000 by delegates at the 55th annual Australian International Movie Convention on the Gold Coast.
Ledger, who has been embraced by Hollywood since his breakthrough role in 10 Things I Hate About You and The Patriot, won the Australian Star of the Year Award for his 1999 role in Two Hands.
In a recorded message from Prague where he is currently filming A Knight's Tale, Ledger said he was honoured that producers, exhibitors and distributors had selected him.
Ledger said he was especially proud of his work on Two Hands, which remains one of his favourite films.
